Purpose
To provide instructions on how to effectively clear a deck of any lube oil residue.
Note
These instructions will only work if the deck is made out of a metal like steel. Exotic metal decks such as titanium and potassium should not be treated in this manner.

Do not smoke.
Do not ingest any substances involved in this process.
Area of operations will be slippery.
Do not run.
Do not spread oil to any areas other than the areas of operation.
Before attempting to secure uncontrolled lube oil certain personal protective equipment must be worn. Work Clothes such as a boiler suit should be worn. Safety boots should also be worn along with safety glasses. Gloves must be worn to prevent direct chemical contact with your skin. Unauthorized contact with these chemicals could cause serious injury or death.
Operations Checklist
The initial step in securing a deck of lube oil is to assess the situation. The amount of spilled lube oil must be considered.
Large spills: If there is containment with several square feet covered by lube oil the situation will call for the use of a hand pump. If no containment, a handpump is optional.
Small spills: An area under one square foot of uncontrolled fuel oil.
Large Spill
To secure a large spill the use of a hand pump is required.
1. The hand pump must have an attachment that when placed into the lube oil the head of this attachment will be completely submerged in the lube oil to allow for a positive suction discharge.
2. Once this is attained, operate the hand pump using the operation manual provided by the manufacturer. Empty a full load of the pump into a bucket. Be careful not to tip the bucket and that the bucket has no holes located on the infrastructure. The operation of this hand pump will continue until it is not possible for the head to be submerged any longer.
3. If the lube oil is still relatively large in volume, the use of diapers is now necessary. Cut the diapers into two feet by two feet squares.
4. Place diapers over the spilled lube oil. Place the diapers next to each other but do not have the diapers over lap. This will cause inefficient turgor pressure upon the lube oil.
5. Allow the diaper to become super saturated in the lube oil. This can be determined by looking at the original color of the diaper and waiting for the original color of the diaper to change, from white to the color of the lube oil.
6. Once the diaper is supersaturated in the lube oil, place the diaper into an oily waste container. During this process, be careful to not contaminate any areas with unwanted lube oil. Look for drips on the way and make sure you do not spread the lube oil over another section of deck.
7. Continue to use diapers until there is a thin film of lube oil no deeper than on quarter of an inch in the area of operations.
8. Cover the bottom of a bucket with Spic and Span. Do not use more than an eight of the box because this would be a waste of materials.
9. Once the bucket's bottom is filled up, take bucket to a sink and fill the bucket with hot water
10. The bucket should have a large amount of soap foam at the top. If there is no foam than add more spic and span to the bucket.
11. Now get the stick and attach the metal brush attachment.
12. Attach the mop head to the other stick.
13. Place mop head and bucket with spic next to spill. Submerge mop head in Spic solution and spread solution, over a section of no more than ten square feet.
14. Take mop and place in an empty bucket.
15. Take stick with brush head and submerge in the Spic solution.
16. Take stick with brush head and scrape surface with great force until the area is no longer covered in soap bubbles.
17. Grab the stick with the mop head and dry the wet area that was scraped by the stick with the brush head.
18. Continue this process until there is no film of oil left. If there is any lube oil that appears in this area then continue this process until there is no oil left.
19 Check to see if there is no oily residue by placing a clean napkin over the dry area. If the area is clean then there will be no oil on the napkin.
Small Spills
To secure a small spill first use a series of cotton rags.
-
Grab three square feet of rags; more may be required.
-
Place the rag over the spilled fuel oil. Wipe the oil until the rag is filled with oil. The rag will act like a sponge.
-
Place the oily rag into an oily rags container. Be careful not to spill any oil on the way.
-
Continue this process until there is only a thin layer of lube oil covering the area.
-
Attain a bottle of Simply Green cleaning product.
-
Spray product over film of lube oil.
-
Take a clean rag and wipe surface until dry.
-
Continue this process until there is no oily residue left on the deck.
-
Check to see if there is no oily residue by placing a clean piece of paper over the dry area. If the area is clean, then there will be no oil on the paper.
Conclusion
The process of securing uncontrolled lube oil can be done by using many different methods. These methods will aid in the removal of lube oil from a deck.
